What do you all think of derek roddy? He is one of my favorite drummers along with george kollias, but each has their high points. George is probably the fastest and most technical. Derek has a lot more jazz/blues influences in his metal drumming and pulls off some extrememly complex beats. (ie.. the I Monarch intro on the newest H.E. album) Since derek's departure from hate eternal, he has started playing other types of music. Here are a couple videos he uploaded to youtube of a blues/jazz band he is playing with at the moment. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLRnltoKSZI www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMyrJgQymLA Pretty good stuff. I look foreward to hearing what he has for us in the future.

Well i have to say, it sure was worth taking the day off work and driving 4 hours each way to see this show. He played 3 songs with backing music from his new band Today is the Day, fast heavy stuff. Then he did explanations and demos, and answered questions from the crowd (of around 100). He then played 3 more songs some fast, some slow. Then they drew door prizes which included a bunch of cool stuff, including a Sonar snare. I didnt win anything of course, but i got him to sign the poster. We talked for a while about stuff, he actually knows who i am from his forum which i found quite astounding. Great guy, always has a smile... except when he's playing Will post pics tomorrow when i get them off the camera.

Derek Roddy Joins The MEINL Cymbals Team And Will Be Featured On The MEINL Drum Festival 2007
Meinl Cymbals is proud to announce that Derek Roddy has joined the Meinl Cymbal team and that Derek will be one of the featured artists on the Meinl Drum Festival 2007. Derek has developed an international reputation for his ground-breaking and virtuosic extreme metal drumming. The flair and finesse that he combines with a sense of utter brutality is truly a thing to behold. With abilities that defy categorization and an uncanny knack for absorbing and assimilating all styles of drumming into his own special blend, Derek has consistently shown the music world that not only is he one of the true originators and leaders in the extreme metal genre, but that he is able to stretch and go beyond into many more styles of drumming . He has lent his formidable skills to death metal and extreme metal giants such as Hate Eternal, Malevolent Creation, Nile, Divine Empire, Aurora Borealis and Council of the Fallen. He is currently putting the finishing touches on the upcoming album from the legendary Today is the Day. His thirst for drumming knowledge has led him to peaks that many will never have the priviledge of witnessing. Recently he has channeled that wisdom into his brand new instructional book/cd, "The Evolution of Blast Beats," which is a stunning collection of some of the most insane drum work-outs that have ever been.
Derek has found that Meinl's extensive alloy choices have given him the ability to express himself as thoroughly as possible. Derek is exclusively playing the Meinl Byzance, Mb20, Soundcaster Custom and Generation X series cymbals.
On September 08, 2007 on Meinl's premises in Gutenstetten, Germany, Derek along with other world-class Meinl cymbal artists will be on hand to showcase his extreme metal style coupled with his many other drumming abilities for a packed house.
