from the 25 seconds i heard me either...i havent and still dont really have time to listen to it
edit:
well, i started to listen to these two songs...writing them as i listen...
porcelain heart: typical new opeth sound to me...(ghost reveries style) middle part sounded exactly from the ghosts of perdition song off of GR...another part sounds like a bull-shit lullaby he threw together to have a slow part...and then the GR riff comes back, its a simple pattern on guitar 1 backed by a lame chord progression (very like GoP) and clean "AHH" vox...so far it sucks to me...might take a few more listens but we shall see
the lotus eater: interesting opening...clean vox dont do it for me right away, growls are very opeth-esc. pretty badass into the next riff transition in the beginning... reminds me vaguely of still life era opeth too...well briefly at parts that is... another mieandering part with a high repitious guitar pattern with backing chords...followed by a solo which is pretty neat...and then the fun part starts! sounds like a carnival... well some ok groove patterns weve all heard time and time again from opeth, clean parts that make no sense and there you go...
i dont understand why this is considered some of the best progressive music anymore...its repetitive and not as flowing or complex as it all used to be...they are clearly trying too hard as far as i can tell so far, putting in clean parts for no good reason it seems, they are pretty neat and all, just makes no sense, im sure the more i listen to it the more il bend one way or another like it or hate it, but for now, i feel like i have to kinda try to like it.

Swedish progressive death metal band Opeth have made an edit of a new song called "Lotus Eater" available online. The upcoming Opeth album "Watershed" will be released on 3th June at Roadrunner Records. You can download the song at this location. In other news, Opeth have recently filmed a promotional video to an edit of the song "Porcelain Heart". The clip was directed by Lasse Hoile (Porcupine Tree etc) and shot in Vaxholm/Sweden at the marvellous Bogesund castle, built in the 1640's. The edit was done by Jens Bogren and Mikael Ã…kerfeldt. Mikael comments: "I think the video came out great! The location and the castle was beyond gorgeous, even though it was cold and empty in there and...yeah, a little scary too. Lasse and his team as well as the actors did a great job! The clip is very gothic looking which I think is the perfect imagery for the song and for Opeth overall I suppose. Really enjoyed filming that one actually!" Check out a few screen-shots and The Video.

Possibly the best album ever.

yeah...its definately different than the two songs i heard on youtube. its still kinda fucked up though, really the song structures dont vary much from the opeth style which i feel like before it was all custom riffage, each song had a unique feel to it, which it does here too on this album, just that certain progressions sound familar or remind me of other opeth. i also think this was an awesome direction for them to take too. i think old opeth harnessed a lot more screaming, but mikael now opts for melodic vox which i think add more character to the songs (for opeth anyway, not applicable to really any non-progressive dm band) and adds growls and screams when appropriate which rocks. it does sound a little bit more mainstream of music in some parts i.e. the clean vox and melodies, slow songs but that shits always been a trademark of opeth and they just exploit it here. i still dont know too much about the songs yet...i only listened to it 2-3 times through so far

He is THE best vocalist in metal. Im glad they finally moved towards clean vocals and away from the growls (which of course do sound good in their respective parts). The music is so complex and well thought out. Older opeth was good, they made their own style and whatnot, but this album puts them in a whole new level. Its like listening to Pink Floyd and Bloodbath heh. The guitar work and organ is absolutly breathtaking.
Oh, and if anyone has a problem with the fact they aren't as deathmetalish as they used to be, well ..... fuck you haha
This is the way music should be. Fucking amazing.

yeah it really reminds me of porcupine tree-ish in a way, but i dont think anyone here really listens to them...hmmm..oh well, its pretty amazing
on the note about old opeth, the style changed a frequently even in the older shit from morningrise to still life, if it was all the same, then it would really be boring as fuck, this is a badass progression for a badass band (why the fuck did they have to piss me off and release the song "the grand conjuration"? that made me so skeptical about them) i really want to comment more about it, but i dont think ive listened to it enough to do it justice or whatever it deserves...
