Im a guitarist, used to play bass for 2 years, hated it, switched to guitar. Now i find myself recording bass for my band because me and the drummer kicked out all the members. What the hell do you do when you have palm muted riffs. I have a series of riffs that are either slow palm mutes and ones that are quick. When I record the quick palm mutes, i fear that the bass will just make it muddy and cluttered. I want that chunkiness kind of sound. Ive tried palm muting the bass, and it seems to work (when im using my fingers i just use my pinky to partially mute it). Any ideas or clues?

Im "ok" at bass, but have no idea how to do a PM. Is it not the same as guitar? Autumn or switchrider might know though

well im assuming it is, im just wondering if its the right thing to do, as im an idiot and think it would work.
I tried it and it didnt sound bad, but i just want to know so that when we finally get a bassist and i tell him," just palm mute those parts" he doesnt hit me in the head with the bass.

if you're using a pick then that all works nicely when you use fingers you can do the same but play some strings with ya thumb, or sometimes (sounds almost the same but is completely different) i mute the note with my fretting hand, works just as well
