I wrote this yesterday, it still a bit rough but im very pleased with it.
if youre good youll catch all the mythological themes For those wondering, Cernunnos is the celtic god of the hunt and animals.
SUNKEN STAG
As a stag I chased her through forest and green glen
Weaving our paths between the ancient trees
Hunted her as a panther in the dark
Our ancient courtship made the sun rise
She never gave a foot of ground
Yet never stayed ouside reach
Cajoling with eyes as brown as the earth
Forcing me to prove my worth
We came then to a vast river
O'er which none have crossed
The water had taken many a soul
I thought I had won at last
Rather than be caught, she leaped
Right at the deadly waters
I shouted out her name
I thought she was gone again
What i saw then ill never forget
by some strange sorcery,
the likes of which i have never seen
She tread across the rushing water
Now I must fight nature for Cernunnos's daughter
She stepped off the rapids
Shining in the sun
Not a drop of water touched her
I would not get such luck
And then I leaped
I charged the mighty river
I caught the edge of the opposite bank
And looked to her then
Slowly she came over to me and lowered her face to me
In that second, i lost myself in her sorrowful eyes
I snarled at the river and tried to reach her
I was fighting a losing battle
Looking in her eyes made me see
Things are not how they appear to be
Though she may be here now
She will not remain
Desperatly, I clung to the bank
Water forcing my grip from safety and her
I beared my teeth, fought tooth and nail
against everything desiring me to fail
Still she stood there, out of reach
looking to me with sorrow
the river chuckled then
laughing at my lack of tomarrow
The river's pull proved too much
and I sank beneath the surface
hurtling downstream
away from the one I love
Rocks lashed at me for my folly
The rapids howled in my ear
Soon I was far from the glen
Where I once chased my dearest
The river threw me into the sea
Where the cold darkness surrounded me
I lost sight of the sun
I lost everything right then
From under the water I roared her name
Swallowing water and sinking deeper
But I will not surrender her
Water extinguishes not this flame
I am the sunken stag
And I sleep alone
I sleep under stormy sea
But I will rise again
if theres any good that comes out of losing somone, its the stories and lyrics one can craft out of emotion.
