This has got to be the best prog death metal album ever.Absolutley beautiful riffs, great tone. The ONLY thing that holds this album back,is the weird electronic singing(bear in mind,I'm faly new to Cynic). Now my question is,is their other demo/eps this good?

They might take a few listens to get into, but once you do you'll love it.The vocals are the only thing that took me a while to get past. He(Paul Masidval)uses some king of electronic sounding effect on his clean vocals.

definitely hunt down the road runner records demo. theres 3 songs on it i think, all of which have the same line up as FOCUS but no electronic vocals! and its masvidal on vocals who was the original DM vocalist for the band but was unable to do it on the recording of focus
the other demos are totally different. just thrash basically..technical. its funny, there was like two cynics. the old thrash one and the new jazz one

Yeah, after listening to the whole album Focus i never really liked the vocals at all. The electronics are too odd sounding. The music reminds me of a jazzier version of Death

Cynic are my all time favourite band. There is not a single thing I hate about them. The Clean (flanged, echoed ??) vocals are icing on the cake. Absolutely perfect.

(only Death R.I.P) The voice fascinetes me, is like a alien or a Robot is the first time that I write here. I have found this site searching information of cynic. Now I come back to the mighty forest.

Here is a fact i did not know until now
Cynic
In 1992, the hurricane "Andrew" destroyed Paul Masvidal's house, which delayed even more the recordings form their album "Focus"
