old news is still news from official website: DECEMBER.05.2007 MATT BARLOW IS BACK WITH ICED EARTH! Hello Dear Friends!
Once again the winds of change are upon us, and this time I can say that I am very happy about the result.
While out on the European tour I had several in depth discussions with many loyal Iced Earth fans. A common theme of these discussions was how much Matt is missed. I agreed with the fans that things were not the same and that it was a very special period in Iced Earth’s history.
When I heard several months ago that Matt was going to be doing a project in music again, I was thinking about contacting him and seeing what his intentions were. I didn’t act on this because I was so focused on the writing of the new epic, and frankly, it just didn’t seem realistic.
Well, after getting out on the road and speaking with many of you directly, I decided to call Matt and see how he was doing and if he was interested in working together again. I am proud to say that he is coming back to Iced Earth and we will be getting back to work in the studio very soon.
Matt will be singing on Part 2 of the Something Wicked concept CD and we will be looking forward to getting out on tour and delivering a series of Iced Earth shows that will rival any in the history of the band. And there will be a proper DVD filmed from this period, something we’ve all been waiting for.
I want you all to know that it was you who made this a reality. I have missed Matt’s presence onstage and in my personal life in a big way over the past few years, so I appreciate your honesty in our discussions. It did help me realize the decision to move forward with pursuing this. The fans have spoken and we have delivered!
You true fans know that I’m a straight shooter, I say what I mean and mean what I say. And though I value your opinions greatly, you must believe that this is a decision that comes completely from the heart and is not motivated by anything other than what feels the best for Iced Earth. This is the way that things have always been dealt with, for better or for worse, but always honestly and from the heart.
Tim Owens is a great and talented singer and I wish the best for him and his future on a personal and professional level.
There will be more news soon as to further developments and plans. This will push back the release of Part 2 a bit. Not because we couldn’t be ready to record in time, but because of a new addition to Matt’s family in early 2008!
I am very happy to announce that Iced Earth is truly BACK!

from official site: ICED EARTH confirmed headliner for Chicago Powerfest - May 2nd. American power metallers ICED EARTH have been confirmed for CHICAGO POWERFEST 2008, set to take place on May 1-3 at The Pearl Room in Mokena, Illinois. This will be ICED EARTH's very first performance since the return of vocalist Matt Barlow.
ICED EARTH founder Jon Schaffer had the following comments about their upcoming performance at the Powerfest: "A big hello goes out to all of our friends in Chi-town! I'm very happy to announce that Iced Earth will be playing our first gig of '08 and our first gig with Matt Barlow back behind the mic at the Chicago Powerfest. It's an honor and a privilege that our first show re-united with Matt is in Chicago. This was the first city to really embrace Iced Earth back in 1997 when we started our U.S. "campaign." It was also the passion of our Chicago fan base that was a big reason for the band moving out of Florida and into the Midwest. We LOVE Chicago, we have a lot of friends there and many great memories. It's only fitting that we kick off the next chapter in the city that's always been so important to Iced Earth and our history. This very special night will be a celebration of our past as well as a celebration of a bold and bright future for Iced Earth and our fans. We look forward to seeing you all there! It's going to be something special, guaranteed!"

from official site: FEBRUARY.12.2008 WCR Guitar Pickups and and ICED EARTH announce Jon Schaffer signature pickup, the "Ice Bucker". "I've been buying pickups handwound by Jim Wagner of WCR Guitar Pickups for the last few years and I can say hands down, his are second to none. These babies really make your ears perk up, and recording with them is pure harmonic magic. I've got several models in various guitars, mainly Gibson Les Pauls, the Godwood set (used on the majority of my axes on Framing Armageddon), the Crossroads set (Used in my Baritone Les Paul for all of the Baritone tracks on Framing as well), the Betset, and the Moore/Greene (both used on all of the lead melodies on Framing Armageddon) set are some of my favorites. However, now Jim has developed a new signature pickup that is wound specifically for my percussive picking style.
This new pickup called the "Ice Bucker" is a killer humbucker pickup that is harmonically rich and extremely responsive to thunderously fast picking styles. Jim and I have been working on this for a few months and it's dialed in and ready for public consumption. Jon Schaffer"

from official site: MARCH.14.2008 ICED EARTH ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE, REVEAL ARTWORK With the framework for the Armageddon of Man firmly laid with the band’s 2007 full-length release, “Framing Armageddon – Something Wicked Part I”, ICED EARTH are set to launch the next installment of Jon Schaffer’s “Something Wicked” saga with the release of their new single, “I Walk Among You”, in June of 2008. The full-length studio follow-up to “Something Wicked Part I” is due for release in Fall of 2008.
The new single and proceeding full-length studio album mark the return of longtime frontman, Matt Barlow to the band who’s dark and sinister tones are the perfect fit to narrate the intense and viscous annihilation of mankind set in motion with the birth of the story’s main character, “Set Abominae”, in “Something Wicked Part II.” The single will allow fans to get a glimpse of the bright future for the band, and the perhaps not-so-bright future for humanity as we now know it.
The single will feature 3 songs, an exclusive version of the song "I Walk Alone" and a few tracks from Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Part 1) with new vocal performances by Matt Barlow. Due to the re-tracking of the lead vocals these tracks have been remixed and remastered. There will be an iTunes exclusive version of the single "I Walk Among You" that features "A Charge To Keep" which has also been re-sung by Matt, remixed and re-mastered.
The video for "I Walk Alone" is being filmed in early April.
All tracks were recorded at Jon Schaffer’s studio, Soaring Eagle Sound, and mixed and mastered at Morrisound. The single, and following full-length platter will be released by Steamhammer/SPV.
"I Walk Among You" Tracklisting:
1. I Walk Alone 2. Setian Massacre 3. The Clouding 4. A Charge to Keep (exclusive iTunes track)
MARCH.17.2008 RELEASE DATES FOR NEW SINGLE CONFIRMED Steamhammer/SPV have confirmed the release dates for ICED EARTH'S new single, “I Walk Among You”:

well it was a bday present for my brother...*cough* and a gift for myself i have 2 pics on my phone...i forgot my camera, but the venue didnt have an enormous stage so it wasnt the greatest back drop or anything like the amon amarth show you just went to...
but there was this band septer...lame power metal, some atrayu bull shit emo band, a thrash band (i dont really like thrash at all) and iced earth it was worth every minute of openers..
i feel like what iced earth is to me (even though im a pretty young fan for them since theyre a bit older) is like what pink floyd, maiden, zep, priest were to our parents generation...like now i would love to see any 4 of those bands, but theyre done.... i feel like when i just saw iced earth, i was spending time with this legendary band, where my kids will say, "damn!! i wish i could have been around to see those guys play" and il say, "i saw them, cause im a badass!" anyone else feel that way about anybands? or these guys?

for sure. Its always cooler than anything to say you hung out with band members. I know that kids usually think thats a big deal. Actually almost everyone thinks highly of it as long as they know who or what band your talking about when you tell the story.

well for me its not even that...just being able to see them play was amazing, but when we walked in the signing room after the show, i went in with the 3 other people i was with, and the 5 of them were standing behind this counter, and as soon as i walked in they were looking intimidating as fuck, and i just said "oh...badass" and schaffer (the guitarist who acts like god on stage) looks over and grins haha...its a crazy experience knowing that someones music can touch so many people...how can you plan on that happening when you write it? i cant imagine having people as a following to my music...shit
